Amy – Rowing Rep

I am in year 12 and have been at WHS for five years, since year 7. I joined rowing officially in the summer term of year 8 so I guess I have been doing it for a long time now! I remember signing up to the club on SOCS not knowing what to expect at all. I am so glad that I made that one decision because of the friends I have made and the experiences I have been through with them.

As the coaches always tell us, rowing is one of the most demanding sports physically and mentally but also the most rewarding! As a boat club we have our H.E.A.R.T. values (hard work, excellence, aspiration, respect and teamwork) which really help us come together as a community. The coaching team is brilliant and so supportive while helping you to row the best that you can. All the early mornings and tiring moments are 100% worth it when you win the medals and see your hard work pay off – so I most definitely urge you to get involved with this incredible sport!

Robin – Gymnastics Rep

Hi I’m Robin and I’m in year 12! I’m the gymnastics rep for this year, and I can’t wait to get to know everyone. I have been doing gymnastics since I was 7 years old and have been part of Wimbledon high gym squad since year 2! I love the environment of the competition and bettering your own skill set as well as the comradery of being in a team and cheering your team mates on, both in training and in a competitive environment. Gymnastics is a fantastic sport to build core skills and develop new skills which will be able to help you with your other activities.

Izabella – Swimming Rep

I am currently in Year 12 and am really excited to be your Swimming Rep.

Swimming has always played a very important part in my life. I absolutely love being in water, I joined a swimming club at the age of seven and started to compete at licensed meets at aged 9. Since then, I have won medals in many events at County and Regional Championships. My favourite events are the 200m Butterfly and the 400m Individual Medley. Since Year 3, I have represented WHS at various Swimming competitions, Biathlon and Cross Country events.

Swimming is a brilliant sport, you can train at the school, join a club, or practise on your own in your free time. It’s a lifelong skill, which can also become your hobby. It doesn’t matter where you swim, there is one thing for certain, through swimming you are likely to make new friends.

As your Swimming Rep, I am here and always happy to help. If you have any swimming related questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Remember, always channel your inner Dory. Just keep swimming 🙂

Lucy – Hockey Rep

Joining in Year 7, I got stuck right into hockey here at Wimbledon High. Now in Year 13, my hockey experience over the past years has been filled with opportunities to learn, persevere and most importantly help me make valuable friendships with girls throughout the school. Hockey at Wimbledon is a sport I would strongly encourage others to play, despite whether it’s your first time picking up a stick or you play for a county team – our amazing coaches and facilities will provide for all abilities and will guarantee you victories. So, I hope to see as many of you on the pitch this hockey season!

Emily – Sports Captain + Netball Captain

Hi guys,

My name is Emily and I’m your Sports Captain for 2019-2020, and I’m also the Netball Captain on the Sports Leadership Team.

I play hockey, netball and cricket. I also used to play tennis and swim competitively. I love sport here at Wimbledon as it is the perfect balance between fun but also competitive and I hope that with the help of the PE Department and myself we can further develop this.

Im in y13 and studying Geography, History and Biology and hope to go onto study physical geography and sports science. I also play the clarinet and saxophone and really enjoy being involved in the many different aspects of co-curricular that Wimbledon High offers.

The Gymnastics Rep

Hello all! I love doing gymnastics and have been doing it since I was 11. Although I started relatively late for the sport, I love being able to flip upside down and push myself to try exciting new skills which are sometimes completely out of my comfort zone!

I would like to encourage people to try new and sometimes scary things, as well as finding fun in the sport whatever level you’re at; whether that’s dancing crazily in your room or trying to master a flick!

Millie H,

Gym Rep

The Hockey Rep

I have been playing hockey for school and club for over 10 years now and it is has been a passion on mine since day 1. It is a competitive and enjoyable sport than is very social and has allowed me to make a variety of new friends in my year and between years. Hockey is a sport that I am definitely excited to continue with after I leave school.

As a mentor, I encourage all girls to get involved with hockey as it is a very social and inclusive sport that allows you to meet many new people. I also hope to inspire and share with knowledge with girls in younger years and urge them to continue sport throughout their school life at Wimbledon High and beyond.

Hockey Rep

The Rowing Rep

I started rowing a year and a half ago with Wimbledon High School full time. I did a four day learn to row course in 2016 but at the time I was very into football so did not continue but then did a few sessions with school and fell in love with the sport. I am currently trying out for the U18 GB rowing squad as I want to see how far I can go in the discipline!
Rowing is not always an easy sport as it is so gruelling but I still love it because as it is one of the few sports where you are getting a constant score back. If you join rowing you get to do a variety of different types of exercises including circuits, weights and ergs (my least favourite!) and it is all worth it when you get to go on the water!
I think any type of sport has amazing benefits not just physically but mentally and I would strongly recommend people trying to continue doing exercise throughout their life and definitely trying to keep it up through life at Wimbledon High as we are so lucky to have so many options.

The Netball Rep

For me netball is an exciting and competitive sport which I have been playing for 11 years. During this time, I have played for Wimbledon, Cobham, Surrey and was fortunate enough to train in a Surrey Storm development hub team last year. I love the team work in the game and have been fortunate to make some great friends through the sport, particularly Fi (our hockey rep) who I have been playing alongside with, for 11 years.

As a mentor for netball I would encourage anyone interested in netball to give it a go, no matter your ability. Netball is a great way to work on your agility, coordination skills and most importantly to have fun! For those who play competitive through school or external teams I would love to share my knowledge about the game and support girls in a team or individually.

Annie D,

Sports Captain & Netball Rep

The Tennis Rep

I have been playing tennis since the age of 6, competitively since the age of 12 and ever since it has been a huge part of my life. Tennis is a sport in which you are by yourself on your side of the court the majority of the time, and this teaches you determination, motivation and builds mental strength. It shows that with discipline, dedication and working hard, you can reach your goals and aspirations. Additionally, I love tennis because it is a sport of personalities where your style of game reflects your character. As a mentor, I would love to help the girls find their own passion and talent and have fun doing so (as enjoying the sport is the most important ingredient!). I also hope to inspire the younger years and help them develop into great athletes.
