As part of Unconquered Peaks’ observance of Black History Month in America, I have made a list of the best documentaries, films or series to watch that help us to understand the topic and educate ourselves in a simple, enriching way.
When I heard the news that Asos had bought out Topshop (and by extension Topman and Miss Selfridge), it suddenly began to dawn on me … Oxford Street is going to have a gaping hole. More seriously, it is indicative of the profound changes our high streets are destined to experience in the next few months and years. This was following Boohoo’s acquisition of the struggling department store Debenhams. That same online fashion retailer is set to buy the remnants of the Arcadia group (Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Wallis) in the next week or so.
The first Grammy Awards were held on 4th May 1959 simultaneously in Beverley Hills and New York City, where only 28 Grammys were given out. The most prestigious and coveted category that has been presented every year since 1959 is the infamous Album of the year.
And only 10 Black people have ever won it.

Although Joe Biden’s inauguration has left us with many memorable moments, such as Lady Gaga’s brilliant performance, some incredibly put-together monochromatic outfits, and my personal favourite, Amanda Gorman’s spirited and inspiring poem, one of the most talked about moments of the inauguration was orchestrated by everyone’s favourite Vermont senator, Bernie Sanders. In such a strange time between the pandemic, the capitol riots, and exam uncertainty, I found myself once again asking for a Bernie meme (please understand this reference), and of course Senator Sanders delivered as usual. So, in honour of one of the people who inspired my love for American politics, I’ve decided to rank my favourite Bernauguration memes from my least favourite to my very favorites.
