Interview with the Inclusive Community Team

For the final instalment of the SLT Interviews series and the penultimate UP edition of this academic year, we are pleased to introduce to you the Inclusive Community Team for 2025-2026. This year’s Inclusive Community Team includes Cecily and Iris as the joint Heads of Co-Curricular, Matilda and Alice as the joint Heads of Student Wellbeing, Thandi as 1880 Ambassador, Farrah as Head of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion, and Emilie as Head of Transition and Induction.

What are you most looking forward to doing during your time on the SLT?

Cecily: Everything really – I can’t wait to play a part in leading the school. I’m especially looking forward to organising off timetable day and house music!

Iris: During my time on SLT, I’m looking forward to planning the events – especially off timetable day!

Alice: I’m really looking forward to organising and getting a say into the events, like House music and sports, that I’ve enjoyed so much for the last few years.

Thandi: Interacting with people and parents in the school, and raising money for more bursaries!

Matilda: Helping everybody in our school to be the best version of themselves! And also going to GDST Headquarters.

Farrah: As EDI Rep, I’m most looking forward to bringing an inclusive perspective to strategic decision-making. It’s a real opportunity to ensure that equity, diversity, and inclusion aren’t just standalone initiatives, but are embedded in how we shape policies and support our communities. I’m excited to amplify underrepresented voices, challenge unconscious bias, and help create a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive.

Emilie: I am so excited to work and contribute ideas with the team to make this year the best its ever been!

What’s your go-to comfort meal?

Cecily: Pizza – I think it is the perfect meal for any occasion; whatever you like you can put on it.

Iris: Avocado and a poached egg on toast! (Or some kind of pasta dish!)

Alice: It’s not a meal, but I love apple crumble!

Thandi: Rice + frozen vegetables + beef mince (trust).

Matilda: Peanut, tofu ramen.

Farrah: Penne Bolognese.

Emilie: Pasta pesto (not pesto pasta!!).

What’s a niche topic you’re really passionate about?

Cecily: Horrible histories songs – I’ve been watching it since before I can remember and I am pretty I sure I know the lyrics to any of them.

Iris: The role of global organisations and bodies in solving conflict (I am equally passionate about the Met Gala outfits and reviewing them every year…!)

Alice: There are so many niche areas of music – both in the pop and classical worlds – that I know a lot about and really love.

Thandi: Exoplanets, generally life outside the universe (though I’m no expert on it!)

Matilda: The rights of tea plantation workers, who have to pick 20kg of tea a day just to earn $3.50.

Farrah: Women’s college basketball.

Emilie: Curating the perfect Pinterest board.

What would your biography be titled?

Cecily: 250 pages of yap; a life in random thoughts.

Iris: Looking Back.

Alice: The Yappathon.

Thandi: ‘A pursuing sloth’ or something corny like that.

Matilda: Curls and Twirls.

Farrah: I really can’t think of one.

Emilie: Emilie, not Emily x.

What’s your comfort movie/TV show?

Cecily: I’m quite a big TV watcher (if I’m honest I constantly have something on in the background) and will watch (most) things. But the three shows I’ve been watching on constant repeat, pretty much since I was ten, are Friends, Glee and Modern Family! In terms of films, I love anything comedy – especially 90s rom-coms – e.g. Bridget Jones Diary or Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Iris: Bridget Jones’s Diary or 10 Things I Hate About You (or Derry Girls!!)

Alice: Pitch Perfect

Thandi: Married at first sight

Matilda: The Good Doctor.

Farrah: Workin’ Moms.

Emilie: Schitt’s Creek – ‘Ew, David!’

What are your top 3 favourite songs?

Cecily: I predominantly listen to Musical Theatre and am constantly looking for new albums to listen to, but my top 3 songs are probably; ‘Being Alive’ (company), Cabaret (Cabaret) and Valerie (but specifically the Glee version).

Iris: All Night (by Beyoncé), Ladies Room (by Olivia Dean), and Supercut (by Lorde)

Alice: Happier than Ever by Billie Eilish, Modigliani by Lucy Dacus, and Genesis by Raye.

Thandi: Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy – Queen, WUSYANAME – Tyler the Creator (one of the more PG songs of his), Our House – Madness. My genre preference changes all the time, but I currently like hip-hop, rock & indie the most.

Matilda: Bartender by T-Pain & Akon, Summertime Sadness by Lana del Rey, and Your Song by Elton John

Farrah: Sundress by A$AP Rocky, Take Care by Rihanna & Drake, and Slide by Calvin Harris

Emilie: All My Love by Noah Kahan, Ribs by Lorde, and Complicated by Avril Lavigne
