Wheels > doors, always

The biggest philosophical question to date: wheels or doors?????

Unless you’ve been living under a rock with no Wi-Fi, you likely will have seen the discourse on TikTok or Twitter over whether there are more doors or wheels in the world:

I have spent the past few days engaging in heated debates over this hugely controversial topic, arguing for ‘Team Wheels’. Having recently converted my brother (who used to be adamantly Team Doors – ew) into believing that there CLEARLY ARE MORE WHEELS THAN DOORS, I thought I would share my wisdom with Unconquered Peaks to convince more people that Team Wheels is vastly superior.

According to Google, a wheel is ‘a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move’. Initially, you might think that there are surely more doors than wheels – think of all the doors in hotels and houses. Sure, you may argue, each car has four wheels, but cars also have doors! This is a fair argument but to be honest, it’s woefully insufficient. Not only do wheels on cars get replaced frequently, but this argument is totally discounting where we can see wheels elsewhere. What about the thousands, MILLIONS (dare I say billions??) of wheels in bikes…

or trains

or conveyer belts

or roller coasters

or in machines

or ON machines

or on spinny chairs

or furniture

or trolleys

or in factories

… I could go on.

Even some forms of doors require wheels to work, like garage doors or sliding doors. Some people argue that the pin in hinges on doors are a form of elongated wheel itself!

If you aren’t convinced by my extensive list of wheels in everyday life, let’s take a more creative stance. One look at my 7-year-old sister’s bedroom just further reinforced my argument: CHILDREN’S TOYS. Hot Wheels, Lego wheels, toy cars, those little pull-along caterpillars – they all have so many wheels. Lego makes nearly a million tyres a day, take that Team Door.

In conclusion, if you’re on Team Door, please, in the wise words of Michael Jordan: “Stop it, get some help.”

Having said all this, there is ONE exception to ‘wheels > doors’, which is in the Monsters Inc universe:
