I don’t know about you, but this Sports Day has been the best yet for me. Shout out to Emma and the House Captains for that. And to Ms Lewis and the whole PE Department, as well as the brilliant catering team. In honour of this splendid day, I thought it only right to reflect on the types of students we all see every year.
1 – The House captain
- Dinosaur. Costume. (the best bit of any Sports Day according to some)
- So much house spirit, and there’s definitely a tutu involved.
2 – the Year 12s
- It’s our final Sports Day and we’re swallowing our pride and going all out.
- So many ribbons, face paint everywhere, lots of shouting.
- I don’t think any of us have ever felt so competitive in our lives.
3 – the school record-setter
- Never did they realise they would beat a school record, let alone in front of the whole school.
- They’re definitely the athletes of their year.
- If this is you, I’m impressed. Well done.
- If you’re a Year 7 breaking a record, then that’s a pretty impressive way to spend your first WHS Sports Day. Hats off to you!
4 – the actual athlete
- They probably run track outside of school.
- Competing against them in a race is a humbling experience.
- I fear you.
5 – the Year 7
- You don’t really know what to expect from all of this.
- They’re probably slightly overwhelmed by all of it.
- House spirit is high and face paint is on.
6 – the one who wins the side games
- I mean that’s just impressive.
- Did they teach you the trick for guessing how many sweets are in a jar?
- On behalf of all your friends, I hope you share them.
7 – a Scott member
- We get it, you won (I say this with love).
- I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much blinding yellow before. I love it.
- While I personally (as a member of Arnold) think Arnold was robbed, Scott participants definitely killed it this year.
- Their House spirit definitely grew when the winners were announced.
8 – a teacher
- While I cannot claim to be a teacher myself, I can’t imagine this is everyone’s favourite day.
- Special thanks must go to the brave ones who ran in the relays, you got the biggest cheers.
- Year 12 was robbed in that first Tug of War though… (not that we’re bitter)
And here ends my final WHS Sports Day and to be honest I don’t really know how to feel. I can’t say I’ve ever been much of an athlete, but no one can ever take my House spirit away from me. Whether you’re like me, or a serious athlete, I hope you had a brilliant day (and enjoyed the ice cream).
