A definitive ranking of everywhere WHS students go on the last day of school

Two articles from Martha in one week? Who would have thought!

This time, in honour of this school year, here is my definitive (and tooooootally authoritative) ranking of every restaurant that WHS students go to on the last day of school.

In last place: the Common

  • I would put this in a better place, but I have never been to the common without a) being rained on, b) being chased by a duck or c) falling into mud.
  • A good meeting point for catching up with friends from other schools.
  • I respect you feeling the energy to go up the hill, I rarely do.

In 7th place: Starbucks

  • This was definitely my kind of place in Year 7 and 8.
  • Nothing can beat the feeling of young me feeling so fancy buying her first Caramel Frappuccino (the best type) after my first day of Year 7.
  • I’m sorry to say though, it’s far from my favourite. My days of fighting for a seat upstairs are now over, and I think that’s for the best.

In 6th place: Pret

  • In true WHS style Pret is the place to go for a quick meal.
  • Many of the places on this list are a rite of passage, but Pret is probably up there as one of the most important.
  • My personal favourite is the Hoisin Duck wrap, it always hits the spot.

In 5th place: Wagamama

  • Lunch, anyone?
  • If you go, you’re almost certainly in Year 7 or 8, but it’s a rite of passage to go at least twice.
  • My recommendation: crispy shredded duck saku saku soba (it always hits the spot)
  • They don’t usually take bookings, so you are fighting to get a table in there.

In 4th place: Itsu

  • This is one of my personal favourites.
  • There’s something for everyone, and it is a rite of passage to run to Itsu before a school event to get the all-important pre-event dinner.
  • Why is this above Wagamama’s? You may ask. And to that I say simply because I prefer the vibe of Itsu. That’s all.

In 3rd place: Rosa’s Thai

  • Congratulations, you’ve graduated from Wagamama’s, but you still want to stay close to school.
  • Added bonus over Wagamama’s: you can book a table (reduces stress by 99%*)
  • Now, I’m a fan of this option myself and love the Express Lunch menu, would definitely recommend.
  • That said, the likelihood and risk of bumping into teachers definitely increases.

Runner up: Wahaca

  • This one is the longest to get to (it’s down by the Odeon for those who have not yet found it) but would definitely recommend if you can face the “hike”.
  • It’s a bit out there compared to the others (if we ignore Pret / Starbucks / the Common) as it is neither sushi nor noodles, but it is delicious, nonetheless.
  • If you’re fancying trying somewhere new, give it a try!

WINNER: Sticks ‘n’ Sushi

  • Classy, delicious, less full of students, convenient; Sticks ‘n’ sushi has it all.
  • If you’re prepared to spend a bit (read: possibly a lot) more money, this one is for you.
  • I must say sushi is my favourite food, so I am biased here but I can definitely recommend.

Whether you go to any of these places or you’re like me and are rushing to get home to a cup of tea and TV time at the end of a long school year, I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Summer Term 2 is always very hectic, so I think we all need to the time to recharge and recover.
