This year, for Black History Month, the Subject Leaders have explored Black pioneers within their respective fields to demonstrate their expansive contributions to society across generations. Holistically understanding Black people’s history will allow us to celebrate their achievements with openness and awareness, equipping us to prevent future underrepresentation.
Not a Happy Story – Ukraine so far
I am sorry, dear reader, as I must break my promise to you. Last time I assured you I’ll have an article about food and the happiness it brings, about fun traditions and celebrations, about nice and wonderful things. Yet I must disappoint us both and write a different kind of article, one about what happened and keeps happening in Ukraine and the dystopia that is today’s Russia.
The Problematic History of the IQ Test
High IQs have often been compared equally to having a high intelligence. In the media, ‘Nerds with high IQs’ often appear to show an almost superhero levels of genius that dazzle the people around them. IQ tests have provided the basis for standardised testing in schools, they are qualifying factor in being able to join intellectual societies in Mensa, and they have been a factor in Western society for over a century. Yet the real history of the IQ tests is often glossed over and is allowed to be swept under the rug. So, how did it become so prevalent, resulting in a century of bias against minority racial groups and neurodivergence?

But of course not all of us utilise these incredible pieces of paper in the same ways. After all, “efficiency” has a different meaning for everyone.
So, unless you are Year 7s and 8s who actually ensure their planners are kept *tidy*, you may be wondering how a tiny diary, entailing calendar dates and the occasional school guideline, can have such a range of uses.
