Sports Day 2026 Round Up

Sports Day 2026 was filled withS the unexpected. From the contrasting sun straight to the pouring rain, with the dinosaurs soaring across the field, Ms Kennedy catching a tan in the UV1, or Mr Price absolutely bolting to the finish line for Hastings in the squadron. Nevertheless, the day was packed with excitement, competitive spirit, and such great sportsmanship.

The day started off with the Year 12 cheerleading team, who set the tone for a brilliant day. As the 1500m deadly race commenced, each year group fought for their house with all the other years cheering loudly from the sidelines as one house took over another.

Then came the sprints: the 100m, 200m and 300m. Fast, powerful, and fiercely competitive, these races quickened the pace of the day and showcased some outstanding athletic performances. At the same time, the field events were in full swing. Whether it was throwing the javelin as far as possible, leaping over the bar in the high jump like a kangaroo, or launching yourself down the runway in the long jump, these events captured the intensity of the day and demonstrated the determination of students to earn every possible house point.

During the interval, we were treated to Siobhan’s unmissable performance of “Since U Been Gone”, accompanied by another fantastic display from the Year 12s, who once again revealed talents that many of us never knew they had. Their energy and enthusiasm kept the atmosphere buzzing throughout the break.

To round off the day, students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun activities in the centre of the field. From testing their accuracy against the football goalkeepers, to trying archery, boules, cornhole, sack races and egg-and-spoon races, there was something for everyone. These events offered one final chance to earn valuable house points while also providing plenty of laughs and memorable moments.

As Sports Captain, I would be remiss not to mention the relay races. In an effort to capture some content, the orange dinosaur (myself) was forced into an unexpected sprint across the field. While I can confirm that dinosaurs are not renowned for their speed or agility, I like to think I represented prehistoric athletes everywhere with dignity.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the final house results. Tensions were high as the placements were announced one by one. First came Arnold, followed by Meredith, then Scott. By this point, the anticipation around the field was impossible to ignore. That left only one house standing.

Hastings.

After years of waiting and plenty of determination, Hastings were crowned Sports Day champions. The celebrations that followed were certainly well deserved. Not only does this victory bring house pride and bragging rights, but it may also have shaken up the overall house leaderboard. A house that has often found itself near the bottom of the standings has now made a powerful statement, and the race for the overall title has suddenly become much more interesting.

More than the results, however, what stood out most throughout the day was the incredible attitude shown by everyone involved. Whether competing, officiating, performing, supporting friends, or simply getting involved in the fun activities, students demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm and sportsmanship from start to finish.

Sports Day is about much more than winning races or collecting points. It is about representing your house, supporting your peers, stepping outside your comfort zone, and creating memories that will be talked about long after the final results have been announced. This year certainly delivered all of that and more.

Thank you to all students, staff, volunteers, and organisers who helped make Sports Day 2026 such a success. The energy, commitment, and school spirit on display throughout the day were truly fantastic, and I have no doubt that it will be remembered as one of the most memorable Sports Days in recent years.
