New regulations mean that 2026 will be a career-defining season for many drivers. Talent will be exposed and reputations either cemented or shattered. Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton are not unfamiliar with being under the spotlight by media and fans, but in 2026, these three will be even more heavily scrutinised.
Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
Charles Leclerc is an established driver in F1. After his Rookie of the Year performance in 2018 at Alfa Romeo, Leclerc was promoted to Scuderia Ferrari. At Ferrari he’s proven himself as an excellent driver, with eight wins and twenty-seven pole positions to his name. However, sustained title contention has eluded Leclerc thus far. Ferrari’s reliability and strategy issues have been the main cause of this, rather than Leclerc’s lack of pace. In 2022 he lost out to Max Verstappen for the world championship, after strategic blunders made his chance at the title slip away. In 2025 Leclerc outperformed teammate Lewis Hamilton, which certainly counts for something. Despite this, in 2026, Leclerc will still have pressure on him. After being hailed as a potential world champion for over half a decade, a competitive car in 2026 is exactly what he needs to finally prove himself as an elite driver. It is Leclerc’s chance to either break free of the “unlucky” narrative, or be labelled as an “almost” forever.
Lando Norris – McLaren
In 2025, a nail-biting three-way title fight between Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen took place. Lando Norris narrowly secured the title, making him the man to beat as we head into the 2026 season. This season, he is no longer an underdog trying to dethrone Verstappen, but instead the benchmark for all other drivers. With high expectations and a reputation for bottling under pressure, 2026 will prove if Lando can defend the top spot or just chase it.
Lewis Hamilton – Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton is the most famous driver in F1 at the most iconic team. However, his debut year at Ferrari in 2025 didn’t bring much success. Hamilton is nearing the end of his career, but 2026 is a chance for him to add to his strong legacy. If Ferrari builds a good enough car, Hamilton could be chasing his eighth world title to become a record-breaker in the sport. But this would also lead to internal tension between Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s golden boy, and Lewis Hamilton, seen by many as the greatest of all time. When tensions rise, who will Ferrari prioritise? So, not only is Hamilton under pressure, the whole team is. After a few slow years at Mercedes with no championships Hamilton has the chance to turn his career around in 2026. Rumours have been flying that he could possibly say goodbye to Ferrari (and F1 altogether) by the end of the 2026 season, so this year is the best time for Hamilton to bring his A-game.
