Charities Visit to Everyone’s Invited

by the Heads of Charities and Partnerships, Lila Henderson and Jemima Bennett

Last week a group of us had the chance to visit the office of Everyone’s Invited (the Middle School charity). During our time there we were able to learn more about the charity, its foundations and the valuable work it has achieved. As a part of this, we learned that the charity has four main pillars:

  1. Safe space: for everyone to feel comfortable to share their stories and maintain their outreach.
  2. Education: They run an education programme and come into schools all-round the country and beyond- they once gave a talk online for students in Bangkok. They have several presentations ranging from ‘The Rise of Misogyny’ to ‘The Importance of Consent’.
  3. Advocacy: Thinking about policy making and how their charity can influence governmental policy and ensure that it promotes the safety of women and girls as well as seeks to educate and prevent against violence against women and girls.
  4. Research: Reading testimonies and seeing if there are patterns between them.

The team were very welcoming and showed us some of their newly updated teaching materials. Eleanor and Talisker have completely redesigned their presentations and were seeking feedback from current students. Their new designs are a lot more eye-catching and colourful. They also deeply valued our feedback and have made many positive changes!

We enjoyed hearing about the true impact that our school’s contributions have had and continue to make. During a conversation with the charity’s Fundraising Officer (Harrie), she told us that contributions such as those which Wimbledon High donates, are the most useful. This is because they are classed as open contributions which allows the charity to spend them however they choose. Wimbledon High’s contributions have made a difference towards the general running of the charity, as well as other areas within the charity which needed prioritising at the time, for example their education programme which reaches local councils, primary and secondary schools, teachers and parents.

It was great to see the charity in action! The trip allowed us to gain valuable insights into the difference that our school can make.
