America experiences another school shooting

A gunman broke into Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas earlier this week, opening fire at school children and their teachers. It has been reported that 19 fourth graders (year 5) and 2 schoolteachers were gunned down after barricading behind a door. The teenage gunman, Salvador Ramos, engaged in a shootout with the police prior to entering the school and murdering his victims. This epitomises America’s ever-growing problems with gun control and raises questions about why it’s children that fall victim to this. Condolences to families and loved ones of the deceased.

Sue Gray publishes a report regarding the Prime Minister’s lockdown breaches

Boris Johnson claims to be “vindicated” following Sue Gray’s findings on his lockdown gatherings, which he was highly criticised for by the Commons. The report detailed 15 parties that occurred while Britain closed under lockdown laws – legislated by him. One of these” meetings” stretched beyond 4am, another including “karaoke, vomit and a minor altercation”. Gray recounted “multiple examples of a lack of respect and poor treatment of security and cleaning staff”, of which she deemed unacceptable. Although Johnson did take responsibility for his actions, stating he had been “humbled” and “learnt a lesson”, he also made the questionable statement that gathering staff for leaving parties was a part of his “duty” as well as denying that he had lied to other MPs. The Prime Minister’s defiance and failure to observe lockdown regulations enforce Gray’s overriding message that he failed in being the good leader the nation needed during such a dark time.

Kate Moss testifies in the Depp-Heard libel trial

Kate Moss was called to the stand in the highly publicised $50m lawsuit between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard, following Actor’s ex-wife calling herself a “victim of domestic abuse” in a Washington Post column from 2018. The British supermodel was able to be called to the stand following Heard’s mention of her name, referencing rumours that Depp pushed her down the stairs. In her testimony, Moss confirmed this never happened, stating that “Mr Depp never pushed [her], kicked [her] or threw [her] down any stairs”, denying the Aquaman actress’s claims that he did.
