End of Term Bingo

It’s that time of year again – the countdown to the end of term is ticking to an eventual close, and there’s a feeling of expectation in the air (either due to an exciting Easter break, or quaking fear that exam season is once again approaching). Whichever one you may be, or perhaps both, there is no denying that that the lie-ins will be more frequent, and you won’t have to sit in a classroom for at least two weeks. And of course, this expectation comes with the End-of-Term Events; so, to entertain you during the next week, here is a comprehensive Bingo checklist of things to look forward to.

Attending Comedy Night

A wonderful time of year for anyone present, and certainly a range of emotions were experience. For performers, the heart pounding fear of knowing that you are moments away from stepping onto to the stage and seeing the expectant eyes of your peers, to pure shock as Ms Cox and Ms Duncan grace the stage with a flawlessly executed Love Island act, to pure confusion and joy at Ms Kennedy and Mrs F-B singing a song it’s safe to say nobody was expecting. We’re all still in a bit of a shock.

The Shock of realising there’s homework in Easter/last week of school.

‘Outrageous!’ you might cry as the second lot of maths homework comes in in the last week of term. Your brain shut down three weeks ago! Yet there is always more homework to be done – you understand that. That is, until you hear the fatal words ‘holiday homework’ and you melt down into your seat, the image of a glossy sun-filled Easter slipping away.

Presentation Assembly

Is there any experience quite like a Presentation Assembly? Appreciating the achievements being read out whilst you feel your legs becoming a little number as you hear each one. But there’s no time to focus on that as you haul yourself to your feet to hear the rousing cry of ‘UNCONQUERED’ whilst singing the indefatigable and rhythmically tricky school song. And of course the next Presentation Assembly is one of the most important of the year, as the increasingly intricately choreographed apple hand-over from one SLT to another occurs. Will it be cleanly done? One can only hope.

Exam Dread

I’m sorry to all year eleven and thirteens for including this on here, but it is an undeniable fact of any Easter holiday that exam season is only too quickly approaching, no matter how desperately we try to ignore it and hang on to March as tight as possible. Naturally, this period will include a lot of frantic revision snacking, sleeping with textbooks under pillows (osmosis is a thing, right?) and far more than the recommended quantity of caffeine.

Battle of the Bands

What better way to raise your spirits from pondering the incoming tests than to go to battle of the bands. From intense changes in lighting, to the competitive atmosphere, to the performances of nostalgic songs that will make you go ‘oh yeah I remember this – why did I stop listening to it’ is a truly iconic point in the year. And who can wait to see the teachers’ band? After hearing the teachers’ choir this Christmas, I have impossibly high expectations.

Locker Clearing

The time-honoured end-of-term tradition which has everyone asking, “Do I even use my locker?” to which the answer will probably be no, 90% of the time. Ripped wrappers of half a chocolate bar, a long-abandoned umbrella and the five-kilogram history textbooks will all be retrieved just to make that final trip home from the last day of school extra special.

The Wagamama Meal

A time-honoured tradition, particularly amongst the lower school. Would it ever truly be the end of term without bankrupting yourself for chicken gyozas and a yaki soba, on a long table with half of your year group on?

Have an excellent Easter everyone!
