The First WHS Clothes Swap

As I’m sure many of you know, this term the first ever WHS clothes swap took place! While the swap was going on, I went around the senior hall to ask the students a variety of questions related to thrifting as well as its environmental importance. Here is a collection of the responses I received:

What is your best thrifting tip?

  • Probably to stay determined while looking for nice clothes. Be prepared that it might take a while, but keep digging, and you’re guaranteed to find some gems!
  • Knowing the demographics of the area the charity shop is in If you’re looking for high-quality vintage clothes, wealthy areas are more likely to have a higher stock of those items.
  • Many different thrift shops specialise in different types of items! If you’re looking for something specific, make sure you research which shops you should go to.

What is your best thrift find?

Here is Poorna showing off her new dress that she got at the WHS clothes swap!

Who is your style icon?

  • Mia Regan
  • Lily-Rose Depp
  • Princess Diana

What inspired you to start thrifting?

During lockdown, I became conscious of my environmental footprint and the ethical issues surrounding fast fashion brands. Not only are the fabrics they use and their production methods highly unsustainable, but the working conditions are inhumane. I thought it wasn’t fair to support them, so I turned my attention to charity shops and second-hand websites such as Depop and Vinted.

Clothes swap success!

On behalf of the Eco-Committee, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came and took part in the clothes swap. Because of you, we managed to raise £357. Please do look out for possible future clothes swaps!
