Not one to break tradition, I’ve been having discussions with the various members of the SLT teams in order to discuss their visions for the role and to get to know them a little bit better, so without further ado, I’ve decided to sit down with our wonderful deputy head girl team, Asqa, Katty and Gracie.
What are you looking forward to most about your new responsibilities?
G: Being able to continue the amazing work the community action team has already done and get lots of the younger years involved in more community events! (And maybe the free breakfast on a Friday morning!)
K: I can’t wait to lead Student Parliament as I’d love to hear and learn from other students at WHS. As well as this, I am determined to set up more regular student council meetings with at least 2 representatives per year group so we can get a clear and representative overview of what changes and developments we can make within our community. However, I am most excited to just experience being on SLT, being able to get more stuck and lead on big events at school and getting to know the incredible people on the team.
A: I think being able to see ideas we imagined throughout school be able to come to reality. There are so many events I’m really looking forward to and I like that I am fully apart of the planning process, and I get to work with my friends. Also, it’s great that younger years can come to me if they want to express any of their own ideas.
When you’re looking to relax, what’s your favourite pastime?
G: I know it’s a boring answer, but just being with friends and family and the dog. Or maybe watching Formula 1!
K: Usually if the weather is nice, I like going on walks or bike rides. However, this being rare in London, I usually find myself sat in front of the TV watching Below Deck or going to a Fulham match.
A: Napping, especially on a Sunday afternoon. But other than that, I usually watch a movie or show, for example, I love “The Office”. Or I play Roblox and FaceTime my friends. From time to time, I also like to crochet. So, a range of things I guess – I don’t have a favourite.
What would you title your biography?
G: Goodness Gracie Me (If I don’t laugh, I’ll cry).
K: The memoirs of a middle child.
A: I have no idea – probably just my name – sorry to be boring.
What would you like your WHS legacy to be?
G: To be honest I don’t necessarily need people to remember me specifically, but I’d like them to remember that the most important thing, cringey as it is, is to be true to yourself, be kind and be completely and utterly you, and that’ll get you through anything.
K: I hope that I can encourage girls in the younger years to be proud of who they are and to never apologise for being authentic and true to yourself.
A: Our theme that we’ve decided for the year is to be “Proud to raise your voice” – so I’d like people to remember us as an SLT that did just that – listen and consider everyone’s ideas, raise discussions surrounding difficult topics, support younger year groups and allow them to feel comfortable to speak to us and speak up about issues. I know I’m part of the head girl team and it can seem like sort of an esteemed role at times, but I’d personally really like to be remembered as someone who doesn’t take herself too seriously all the time and just a friendly person.
And finally, what are your top three favourite songs? (Following on from the wonderful trend of last year, the SLT’s favourite songs will be added to a playlist on the Unconquered peaks Spotify)
G: This has to be one of the hardest questions I’ve ever been asked – how do I narrow it down!! But if I had to pick (and I have to choose these knowing I will have come up with something better the minute I see them printed…)
- Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls (It’s been my favourite song since I was a child).
- Valerie – Amy Winehouse (Absolute classic to get everyone in a good mood).
- Loose – Daniel Caesar (Can’t explain this one but I love it and it was stuck in my head).
K: I honestly like a bit of everything from Etta James to Loyle Carner and my favourite songs change all the time but right now I would probably go with…
- When I was your man – Bruno Mars
- You know I’m no good – Amy Winehouse
- Billie Jean – Michael Jackson
A: This is too hard of a question and I can’t answer but here are some random songs I like:
- The Morning – The Weeknd (I went to his concert last summer and it was one of the best nights of my life).
- Ride – Lana Del Rey (Also saw her in concert last summer and the sunset during this song was really beautiful).
- I Like Me Better – Lauv (It kinda reminds me of Year 7 cause my best friend and I watched the movie “To all the boys I’ve loved before” and this song features on it).
- Passionfruit – Drake
- Wildflower – Billie Eilish
