Back to School Bingo

Now, this may be delayed by a few weeks, but I think that, nonetheless, it is worth welcoming in the new term by paying due homage to more of our favourite characters

1. The one who went to find some winter sun.

  • Well first of all, I’m jealous of the tan they’ve found.
  • While we had winter frost and ice on the pavements, they had sun and temperatures that reached above 5
  • Bonus points if it’s a ski goggle tan line: “we see you, we hate you, we want to be you”

2. The Year 13.

  • The realisation that it’s the last full term at WHS is starting to sink in.
  • To make it worse, it’s 2025… that means doing A-Levels, leaving home, etc… not fun to think about.
  • Mocks have hit hard, and they’ve just about recovered in time for week 3 before half term.

3. The Year 11.

  • Contrary to the Year 13, mocks have only just finished and they’re still desperately trying to claw back some free time this week.
  • It’s their first rodeo at somewhat losing the Winter Holiday and it’s not been easy… what do you mean we have to spend our holiday revising? Really?
  • 9 or 10 subjects suddenly feels like quite a lot to be revising all at once.

4. The one who got a new bag for Christmas.

  • Bonus points if it’s an Eastpak. Even more if it’s black.
  • You can tell from a mile away: it’s clean, structurally sound, and they carry themselves with a bit of extra pride about it.

5. The new academic weapon.

  • They’ve spent the holidays deciding that it’s time to lock in for the rest of the year and reach academic weapon status.
  • How long will it last? Hopefully until February half term. The really dedicated one might even make it to the end of the year… I’m impressed.
  • Mind-maps, note making, Quizlets, it’s all happening.

6. The one who perhaps didn’t to quite enough over the holiday.

  • They embraced the spirit of having some much-needed R&R over the holiday but maybe forgot about some holiday homework in the process.
  • The final weekend and Monday 6th January are spent quite frantically attempting to get as much done as possible.
  • Is it worth it? Maybe. Is it a stressful way to start the term? Probably.

7. The Year 12

  • The realisation that it’s time to start thinking about what happens after WHS is not a welcome one.
  • What do you mean they can’t stay here forever? Leaving? Absolutely not.
  • Often also falling under numbers 5 and 6, the Autumn Term is over and now work has to properly start.

8. The one who got their nails done for Christmas.

  • They got their nails done for the holidays but haven’t quite got round to getting it taken off yet.
  • A few weeks ago they were 100% works of art.
  • It’s been 6 weeks… half of it has probably chipped off already.

9. The Year 7.

  • It’s officially no longer your first term at WHS.
  • The routine is starting to make sense, maybe Year 7 feels properly manageable now.
  • They can navigate the main building and Piper/Lewis now, an exciting and necessary development.

I think I’ve managed to call myself out a bit too much this time… I’m finding I fall under a couple too many of these categories but oh well. Either way, I hope you had a restful holiday and have found the first few weeks of school to be manageable, perhaps even enjoyable.
